Toss from the Tower
From
2001-2006, a neighborhood potluck and paper airplane toss was sponsored
by the Seattle Housing Authority and community members.
Due
to scheduling changes, the 2007 event was postponed, but the event may
happen again in fall, 2008.

Beacon Bluff P-Patch &
Community
Garden
The
Beacon Bluff P-Patch and Community Garden was created from a section of
Seattle Dept. of Transportation property that was never developed into a
road. With grants of $30,000, neighbors created a p-patch on the lower,
15th Ave. side, replaced cracked and dangerous sidewalks with new
walkways, and established a native species community garden on the
upper, 14th Ave. section. These species include Oregon grape, maples, ferns,
native roses, Indian plum, and rhododendrons.
United
Way Day of Caring participants at Beacon Bluff events have included
volunteers from Washington Mutual, Microsoft, Seattle Pacific
University, and other local businesses and schools.

Seattle
Night Out - Block Watches The
second Tuesday in August, Seattle neighborhoods participate in the
Seattle Night Out, where street parties and pot lucks give neighbors a
chance to socialize and build a sense of community. From
one block party in 1998, the number north of the Beacon Hill business
district grew to six in 2007. From one block watch group in 1998 for the
same area, by 2008 11 block watches had been established. In
2007, BAN, the South Precinct, and St. Rep. Zack Hudgins organized
Beacon Hill's first block watch summit, attended by 70 neighbors. Since
2003, BAN has helped organize well-attended crime prevention
community-wide meetings.
