South Lake Union:
In 1903, John Charles Olmsted recommended that the City of Seattle set aside land for a park at the south end of Lake Union, near downtown Seattle. Nearly 100 years later, Seattle Parks and Recreation acquired the former Naval Reserve site at the heart of South Lake Union and has plans to develop the site into a 12 acre park.

South Lake Union Center
will serve as the principle venue for the conference. Participants will attend lectures and workshops in the former Naval Reserve building and at nearby sites around South Lake Union including the Center for Wooden Boats. Conference workshops and tours will also take attendees to numerous Olmsted landscapes and other parks and green spaces throughout Seattle and Puget Sound.

Seattle and its Olmsted Landscapes:
In 2003 Seattle is celebrating the centennial of the Olmsted Brothers' plan for a comprehensive citywide park and boulevard system for Seattle. Due to tremendous citizen support for the Olmsted plan at the turn of the last century, and for parks in general throughout the last 100 years, Seattle now has one of the most fully realized systems of Olmsted designed parks and boulevards in the country.
