Public Involvement
Ballard Commons Public Plaza The City is in the process of updating two more neighborhood plans for 2010. These neigborhoods are Broadview-Bitter Lake-Haller Lake and Rainier Beach. Please click on the following link if you wish to view the original neighborhood plans for Rainier Beach and Broadview-Bitter Lake-Haller Lake. Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) The process for Neighborhood Plan Updates is committed to engaging community members using a variety of outreach and engagement strategies that support inclusion and meaningful participation. Ultimately, this is an opportunity for diverse community input to help shape the neighborhood plan updates. Seattle Department of Neighborhoods will specifically aim to engage underrepresented members of the community who do not normally participate, so that more voices can be heard. To this end, the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods is establishing a local Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) for each of the neighborhoods. Each Committee will consist of 12-15 members representing a broad and diverse range of community members, including socio-economically diverse residents, local business groups, and neighborhood organizations. Please click on the following links for more information on NAC. The Department of Neighborhoods is partnering with the Department of Planning and Development to talk with community groups about the City’s approach to Neighborhood Plan Status Reports and updating three Neighborhood Plans in Southeast Seattle. As the City undertakes the plan updates, one of the guiding principles of the process will be inclusiveness. The planning process must engage a broad group of diverse stakeholders, including residents, business owners, employees, immigrants, all income levels, homeowners, renters, non-profits and civic organizations. The Department of Neighborhoods is leading this outreach effort by identifying strategies for involving groups that may be hard-to-reach, or not typically involved in planning activities, to ensure that the plan update processes are broadly representative of the diverse members of Seattle’s neighborhoods.
