PROJECT STATUS

Design efforts initiated under the Pro Parks Levy can now continue with the completion of this acquisition and the passing of the new Parks and Green Spaces Levy. Schematic designs are located below under Meeting #2.

Development funding for this project is provided by the Parks and Green Spaces Levy. This project was on hold because uncertainty surrounding the availability of the property for park use. For development information please visit http://www.seattle.gov/parks/projects/crown_hill/.

Surplus property at the former Crown Hill Elementary School was purchased from the Seattle School District (SSD) on March 20, 2009 for $5.4 million. The original development project anticipated the property would remain under a long-term lease with the Seattle School District. During the course of the 2000 Pro Parks Levy SSD declared the school surplus. The community advocated for the purchase of the site to preserve existing community open space. This 1.71-acre acquisition is one of several relating to preserving surplus SSD property for park use and its purchase fulfills one of Crown Hill’s longstanding community goals in its neighborhood plan. It is anticipated that a portion of the City funding for this purchase will be reimbursed from a pending King County Conservation Futures grant application.

Parks and Green Spaces Levy development funding of $1.2 million will contribute to completing the design and construction of the park. Fire Station 35 will use a portion of the Holman Road frontage for temporary use while its permanent facility is being upgraded.
