PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This wooded ravine is in northwest Seattle. In 2003, it is home to at least ten great blue heron nests. It is located between 28th and 30th Avenues NW, and includes a mix of private and public ownership, primarily between NW 90th and NW 92nd Streets.

This project includes potential acquisitions to connect and extend existing green space in the North Beach Natural Area.

In 1993, the City adopted the Greenspace Policy to encourage the preservation of green spaces in Seattle. The policy included maps for more than 30 greenspaces. The policy aimed to preserve natural landscape and habitat; provide natural buffers between land uses; mitigate noise and air pollution; reduce need for constructed storm water systems; and preserve natural drainage. North Beach Natural Area was one of the green spaces mapped in the policy.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
On November 12, 2002, the Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee included North Beach Natural Area among the green spaces to be further considered for acquisition through the Pro Parks Levy Green Spaces category.
