Anticipated Construction Schedule for Two-way Mercer Due to the magnitude and complexity of this project, as well as the volume of traffic that will be managed during construction, the City developed construction staging plans to reduce impacts to users of the corridor and keeps people and goods moving. Stage 1 (fall 2010 to fall 2011) Stage 2 (fall 2011 to fall 2012) Stages 3 & 4 (fall 2012 to summer 2013) * Some utility work may occur in this area during Stage 1 Completed Stage 1 Milestones March 2011: Completed installation of new 9th Ave. N sewer line; additional utility and roadway work continues. November 2010: Excavation and shoring activities began for 9th Ave. N sewer replacement. October 2010: Traffic control implemented in construction area along 9th Ave. N; Westlake Ave. N re-striped for two-way traffic between Aloha St. and Valley St. September 2010: Groundbreaking ceremony held at Mercer St. and Westlake Ave. N July 2010: Completed building demolition and construction site prep north of Mercer St. June 2010: Awarded construction contract to local contractor Gary Merlino Construction Company March 2010: Began building demolition and construction site preparation north of Mercer St. SDOT’s contractor demolished eight buildings along the north side of Mercer and along the west side of Fairview between Mercer and Valley streets.
