Individual artists are the heart of a creative community. The CityArtists Projects program provides funding for artists to develop and present their work. The program focuses on different disciplines in alternating years. Awards ranging up to $10,000 support new works, works-in-progress or finished works, and all projects include a public presentation. We encourage a broad range of artistic and cultural expression that reflects Seattle's diversity.
In 2008, CityArtists awarded $225,000 to 38 artists working in the visual, literary, film and media arts. The funded projects will involve more than 150 artists in 101 events across the city. Twenty-eight of the 38 artist projects funded are first-time recipients, representing 74 percent of the awards. The awards range from $2,000 to $10,000, with an average award of $5,921.
The program received a record 168 applicants, a 32 percent increase in applications from the previous 2006 funding cycle for film, media, literary and visual arts disciplines.
