It's Hurricane Season
Thankfully we in the NW don' really have to worry about hurricanes.  This is an excellent time, however, to consider how prepared you are for the natural disasters that we do encounter.  This month, make it a point to make a disaster kit which includes enough food and water for your pets and a safe evacuation plan for your furry and feathered friends.  In the event of a natural disaster, the Red Cross and other agencies will set up shelter where you can go if your home is uninhabitable but these shelters do not accept pets.  Use September to devise a safe place for your pets to weather the storm during a natural disaster.  Remember to take extreme weather conditions into account when planning your pets' shelter.

7 reasons to spay and neuter:

1) Did you know that 70,000 puppies and kittens are born each day in the US.
2) An non-spayed cat can mother up to two litters per season with an average of 6 kittens per litter.
3) A single un-neutered male can be responsible for dozens of offspring per year.
4) Nearly 1/2 of the animals brought to shelters to be euthanized are less than 1 year old.
5) 1/4 to 1/3 of all animals killed in shelters are purebreds.

6) 5 to 12 million are killed anually in shelters because there are no homes to adopt them.
7) Wild cats and dogs are the number one cause of diseases spread among household pets.

Changing your antifreeze?
Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is poisionous to both dogs and cats.
Puppies are especially valnerable. Make sure your pets have plenty of water
available and securly store your antifreeze. If your going to change it,
make sure your pets are not in the area.
