"Lake Washington Cable Railway Co.:
starts at the junction of Yesler avenue and
Commercial streets [now First avenue], and runs on Yesler avenue two miles to Lake
Washington; it makes a loop on Jackson street, making a total distance of five miles,
has a four minute service and connects at the power house with the steamers
C.C.Calkins and Kirkland." [the
trolley rails are still located under the pavement down much
of Jackson street and possibly Yesler] 1924 report - Seattle Chamber of Commerce

First In Transit - Even Then
"Without prejudice or fear of contradiction Seattle can lay claim to
the best street railway system
of any city of 100,000 population. Three years ago (1887) a few bob-tail cars afforded the
only
means of street travel. The first line with improvements upon the mule was the Lake
Washington
Cable line, running from Yesler avenue to Lake Washington and returning by Jackson Street.
By
many this was looked upon as a venture, but the magical development of property contingent
to
this road dispelled any land booming idea, and leading citizens, anticipating the wants of
the
people, at once located other lines, and now Seattle possesses a service unexcelled for
the latest
and most convenient improvements for this purpose." 1924
