City Contracting Apprentice UtilizationOn City construction projects estimated to cost $1 million or greater, the City requires that 15% of the total labor hours be performed by apprentices. Of the 15% apprentice labor hours worked, contractors have goals of using 21% minority labor hours and 20% female labor hours. For more information and resources related to apprenticeship, visit the City's Apprenticeship Web page. Equal Benefits The goal of the Equal Benefits Program is equal pay for equal work. Whenever possible, employees of City contractors must be paid the same total compensation (i.e. have the same access to benefits), regardless of whether the employee's household is organized around his or her marriage or domestic partnership. Prevailing Wage Requirements The City requires that the prevailing wage rate be paid to all employees working on City construction projects. On construction projects that receive federal funding, the City is required to monitor all prevailing wage requirements for that project in accordance with state and federal laws. Women- and Minority-Owned Business (WMBE) Outreach The City encourages the utilization of women- and minority-owned businesses (WMBEs) in all City contracting opportunities. City contractors are prohibited from creating barriers and to open fair opportunities for WMBEs to participate in, obtain or compete for contracts and subcontracts as sources of supplies, equipment, construction and services. The City encourages outreach and good faith efforts on the part of our contractors to utilize WMBEs.
