Budget Committee deliberates and makes recommendations on legislative matters relating to the Seattle City budget.

Budget basics

"Budget Committee" is comprised of all nine Councilmembers.
Councilmembers engage in budget review because the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 35.32A requires the Council to enact a budget. It provides general guidance and schedule for the Mayor to submit a proposed budget and for Council to review and adopt a budget. Adopting a budget is a key policy and oversight role for legislative branch.
