Seattle Justice Center
On November 13, 2002 the Municipal Court of Seattle opened its doors in the new Seattle Justice Center . The Justice Center was built to replace the Court's previous home, the Public Safety Building, which had become overcrowded, lacked many of the amenities desirable in a courthouse, and was too expensive to operate, maintain, and remodel. The Court's space in the Justice Center now includes a number of features which have improved security, accessibility, and environmental performance.
The Justice Center is located in a key position in Seattle’s new Civic Center campus, and houses both the Court and the Seattle Police Department (SPD). However, the Court and the SPD have separate entrances to the building and there is no public access between the Court and the SPD. The Court's entrance is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and James Street.
Please note that although the Court's operations from the Public Safety and Dexter Horton Buildings have moved, the Court will continue to operate one courtroom and all Personal Recognizance services in the King County Jail.
