Online Coaching
The Online Coaching tool provides coaching information and a list of submittal requirements for your single family project (SF zones only). The tool does not deal with structures more than three stories in height, home occupations, commercial, industrial or multifamily projects or provide information on hazardous trees or green building. For information on when a building permit is required, please see the Seattle Residential Code - Section R105.2.
Depending on the complexity of your project, the Online Coaching session will take 10-30 minutes to complete. You DO NOT need to take notes. All questions, coaching tips and submittal requirements will be presented in your final results page.
Directions: Click the "Get started" button below. Answer the questions to the best of your ability. If you need to go back to a previous page anytime during your session, just click the "Previous Page" link. After you finish, read through the entire results page, then print and/or email a copy to yourself (you will be prompted). The project information will not be saved.
Help Online
The more you know about your specific property and situation, the more productive and shorter your visits will be to DPD. Please check the GIS Map tool and Permit and Complaint Status tool to begin your research. These resources and more are available on the DPD Online Services page.
Help in Person
For very specific questions - especially regarding land use development standards on sites proposed for development - DPD recommends that applicants visit the Applicant Services Center (ASC) and speak with a Land Use Planner or Permit Specialist in person. DPD provides free wireless internet service in the ASC on the 20th floor of the Seattle Municipal Tower (700 5th Avenue) and self-serve computers to make your wait more productive. Before you make the trip, check out the ASC estimated wait times.
Help Over the Phone
A complete listing of permit-related DPD phone numbers are available on our Key Contacts page. For general questions, contact the Applicant Services Center at (206) 684-8850. You can also contact the Permit Specialist line at (206) 684-8850 between 1 - 4:15 p.m. on Monday - Friday.
