Ballard Library is holding a series of free, informative workshops to help you learn how to make your home more efficient, healthy and environmentally responsible. Local experts provide practical tips on making your home a green home. Speakers include Thor Peterson of the City’s Green Building Program and Rachel Schindler from Windermere. "Buildings in Balance" Residential Series 2006
In partnership with the Cascadia Region Green Building Council and Northwest Energy Star Homes, Seattle Department of Planning and Development hosted this series of educational sessions. Presentations related to each session are listed below.

July 7: LEED for Homes
Kathleen O'Brien, principal with O'Brien and Company green building consultants, presented an overview of the LEED for Homes system and gathered feedback from attendees.

July 14: Residential Builders' Perspectives on Green Building
This set of presentations and roundtable discussion featured Jim Barger of GreenLeaf Construction, Curt Pryde with Pryde + Johnson, and Pat Shea with Schneider Homes discussing their approach to green building. The discussion was moderated by Mark Huppert of Catapult Community Developers. Jim Barger's presentation.

July 21: Zero Net Energy Homes and Energy Efficiency Incentives
In this session, Charlie Stephens of Adjuvant Consulting and former Oregon Dept. of Energy Residential Energy Efficiency Specialist discussed the global energy supply and how zero energy homes can help address these supply issues. Charlie showed examples of technologies and products used in two zero energy homes he helped create in Oregon.  Charlie Stephens' presentation.

July 28: House as a System
This half-day workshop presented by Dan Cote of Northwest Energy Star Homes discussed the fundamentals of building science, the discipline that examines how heat, air, and moisture interact to affect energy efficiency, durability and indoor air quality issues in a home.
