Seattle's Comprehensive Plan
What's Happening

Upcoming Events

"Seattle 2030 & Beyond" Public Meeting: On November 17, 2009, DPD is hosting a public meeting to discuss our vision for Seattle's future.  Former Mayor Norm Rice will keynote the kickoff event.  Seattle's Comprehensive Plan, the document that guides Seattle's growth and development, is ready for an update.  This is our chance to craft the guidelines that will make our city an even better place to live, work, and play.  The meeting will be held in the Miller Community Center multipurpose room, 330 19th Ave. E.  For more information, visit our public involvement page.

Comp Plan Process

DPD currently has two Comp Plan processes underway.

  • The Seattle 2030 & Beyond is a major review of the comprehensive plan prompted by the state's revised Growth Management Act.  This update will serve to shape Seattle's future for the next 20 years.  We have the opportunity to anticipate -- and address -- the strengths and challenges facing Seattle's growth and development in the coming decades.  The comprehensive plan provides guidelines for our transportation, economic development, human services, and neighborhood growth, to name a few elements.
  • The Annual Amendments Process is overseen by the City Council. The Washington State Growth Management Act gives Seattleites the opportunity to amend our Comprehensive Plan once a year.  Anyone can suggest an amendment, including neighbors, business owners, councilmembers and city staff. Proposed amendments (see application) may include changes to policies, the future land use map, appendices, or other components of the Comprehensive Plan. To be eligible for consideration, applications for proposed amendments must be submitted by 5 p.m. on May 15 each year. A review calendar then plays out through March 31 of the following year.
