Types of Permits

There are two types of permits issued by the Seattle Fire Department:

  1. Temporary Permits are issued for a wide variety of activities and operations that are conducted for a period not exceeding 6 months.  These can include activities such as the erection of tents and canopies, food booths at fairs and festivals, hot work on marine vessels, helicopter lifts of heavy equipment and construction site activities.

  2. Annual Permits are issued for hazardous activities or operations that conducted on an ongoing basis at either a fixed location or at a variety of locations throughout the city.  Annually, at least 30 days prior to the permit expiration date, we will invoice you for the annual renewal fee so that you may renew  your permit and ensure that it does not lapse.
