EMT Requirements

In order to receive a final hire offer from the Seattle Fire Department, candidates must possess Washington State EMT Certification or documentation stating the candidate has completed EMT coursework and is eligible to be certified in Washington State.

Washington State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification is not required in order to submit an application for Entry Level Firefighter.

Out of State EMT Certification

Candidates who hold out-of-state or national registry EMT certification must secure Washington State reciprocity.  Instructions on how to obtain Washing State reciprocity can be found at:  EMS Reciprocity Requirements for King County and Washington State (PDF).

For Candidates that are not EMT Certified

Individuals seeking EMT Certification can consult one of the colleges or courses listed below.

NOTE:
American Medical Response (AMR) is accepting applications now for an EMT class this Fall, September 10 - December 17, 2011.

The course schedule is every T/W/TH from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM and every other Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  The class is limited to 24 candidates.
