Each individual must submit a completed application for testing during the open application period in order to participate in the testing process. There is a $25 application processing fee. Entry-Level Firefighter testing is conducted by the City of Seattle Personnel Department, Fire Exams Unit. Testing consists of the following elements: Applicants will be notified by mail of testing dates, time and location. During the testing season, exam workshops are offered by the City of Seattle Personnel Division, Fire Exams Unit. Written Exam Study Workshops Schedule Eligible Register The City of Seattle Personnel Department develops a ranked list of candidates who pass both the written and oral board exams. Final ranking includes Veteran's Preference. The highest ranked candidates are referred to the Seattle Fire Department for Pre-Employment processing. |

Final ranking on the eligible register includes Veteran's Preference for qualified candidates, per Washington State Law guidelines (RCW 41.04.010). Veterans must submit a long-form DD214 which indicates the nature of discharge in order to receive veteran's preference points. Preference points are only added to passing scores.
