Department Mission
The Fleets and Facilities Department manages the City of Seattle’s non-utility real estate portfolio; oversees the design, construction and occupancy of City facilities; maintains City buildings; and purchases, maintains and repairs the City’s fleet of vehicles.

Making progress on green, clean fleet. As part of the City's Clean, Green Fleet Action Plan, the City now has more than 400 advanced technology and alternative fuel vehicles in its fleet, including 358 hybrid vehicles, 55 compressed-natural-gas-powered vehicles and 36 off-road electric vehicles (19 of these are Segways). The City has approximately 1,000 diesel-powered vehicles and all but 3 percent run on biodiesel.

Improving fire facilities. The marine program has added two new boats, the Leschi and Engine One, to the Fire Department’s fleet. Completed emergency response improvements include the Emergency Fire Suppression Water Supply, Emergency Community Disaster Supplies, and Emergency Community Shelters Power Supply. By the end of 2007, a new Joint Training Facility for the Fire Department, Seattle Department of Transportation and Seattle Public Utilities will be finished. The Fire Station 10 Replacement Project, including the Emergency Operations Center and the Fire Alarm Center, will open its doors in early 2008. Design is under way on 12 neighborhood fire stations and the Chief Seattle fireboat. By 2012, renovations funded by levy proceeds will have taken place on 32 neighborhood fire stations throughout Seattle.
