Queen Anne - Station 8

About the Station

Station 8 houses one engine company (E8) and a ladder unit (L6).

The station has undergone several remodels over the years, including expansion of its apparatus bays. As a result, it is in generally fair condition. However, it still has some shortcomings: the station building does not meet current standards for seismic safety, and it is too small to accommodate a full complement of apparatus support equipment.

About the Project

As a seismic and safety upgrade station, Station 8 will receive some additional seismic bracing to meet current codes.

Other improvements include a modest expansion to the east, on the existing site, to create space to house decontamination equipment, bunker gear, additional apparatus storage, vehicle maintenance functions, and a laundry room. The existing administration and apparatus support areas will be remodeled to accommodate major disaster and EMS storage as well as a battery charging area. The station's second floor, which was recently renovated to provide sleeping quarters and an upgraded kitchen, will remain as is except for a seismic retrofit.

The station will continue to house one engine company and a ladder unit.

During the station upgrade, the station is expected to be relocated to an interim facility that will ensure continued fire and medic response to the neighborhood served by Fire Station 8.
