Beacon Hill - Station 13 - Historic

About the Station

Station 13 houses one engine company (E13), a battalion chief unit, and reserve battalion chief unit. It currently serves as the lead station for Battalion V, which serves most of southeast Seattle. In 2004, the station was designated as a landmark. Click here to see the landmark nomination report.

Although Station 13 was built more than 75 years ago, its extensive expansion and renovation in 1987 resulted in many improvements. Today the building remains in generally fair condition. The south apparatus bay went through emergency seismic repairs in 2001 in response to the Nisqually earthquake.

About the Project

Hoshide Williams Architects are designing the upgrade of the facility.

The project scope includes:

  • a seismic upgrade to bring the station up to current safety standards
  • an addition to accommodate crew kitchen, dining, and outdoor storage
  • remodeled interior to provide space for support functions
  • emergency generator
  • new roof

Temporary Relocation

During the construction, the station has been relocated to Fire Station 14 at 3224 Fourth Ave. S. The Batallion Chief has been relocated to Fire Station 30 at 2931 Mt. Baker Blvd. S. The temporary relocation will ensure continued fire response to the neighborhood served by Fire Station 13.

Current Status

The project is in the construction phase.

Milestones

December 2011: Fire crews moved to temporary quarters at Fire Station 14, located at 3224 Fourth Ave. S.

November 2009: About 75 neighbors attended a schematic design open house to see the preliminary design and the fire engines.

February 2009: Hoshide Williams Architects were selected to design the project.
