Mount Baker - Station 30
About the Station Fire Station 30, located at 2931 Mt. Baker Blvd. S., houses one engine company and a reserve engine. Currently, the station is a single story building located in Rainier Valley in an area with retail and other businesses near Franklin High School. To meet current earthquake safety standards and accommodate today’s modern equipment and firefighting operations, Fire Station 30 would require significant work. As a result, a replacement of the station is planned on the existing site. Design is currently underway, with construction to follow in late 2008. Station Improvements The architectural firm Schacht Aslani is designing the fire station. The project scope will include: • a new station built to current safety standards Temporary Relocation During the station rebuild, the crews will move to an interim location that will ensure continued fire and emergency response to the neighborhoods served by Fire Station 30. Current Status The project is currently in the schematic design phase. Milestones August 2007: Susan Zoccola from Seattle was selected as the project artist. June 2007: The scope/concept briefing took place with the Design Commission. About 50 neighbors attended the pre-design scope open house to learn about the new station, view sketches, meet the fire fighters, and tour the engine.
