Lake City - Station 39
About the Station Fire Station 39, located at 12705 30th Avenue NE, houses one engine company and a reserve engine. Built in 1949, the existing station would require significant work to meet current earthquake safety standards and accommodate today's modern equipment and firefighting operations. Since meeting code and operational requirements would require a complete overhaul of the station, it is more cost effective to build a new facility on the existing site. The new station will occupy part of the current site, and the remaining portion will be sold. Design is currently underway, with construction expected to begin in late 2008. Station Improvements The Miller Hull Partnership is designing the fire station. The project scope includes a new, two-story, three-bay station built to current seismic safety standards. During the construction of the new facility, crews will remain in the existing facility. The North Helpline food bank will also remain at its current location, adjacent to Fire Station 39, while the new station is under construction. Current Status October 2007: The project is in schematic design, with the schematic design presentation at the Design Commission scheduled for December 6. Milestones August 2007: The Design Commission approved the concept design. The Public Art Advisory Committee selected Stephen Glassman of Venice, CA to create art for display outside the fire station. July 2007: To learn about the new station, meet the fire fighters, and tour the engine, about 150 neighbors attended the pre-design scope open house. November 2006: The Miller Hull Partnership was selected as the project architect. |
