Helping Links 15th Year Anniversary Celebration

Come and join us and our friends on August 21, 2008 to celebrate our 15th Anniversary Celebration. The dinner will open doors for 300 friends to learn more about our vision, celebrate our milestones, and invest in the success of Vietnamese-Americans in our community. Proceeds from the benefit will support our community-strengthening programs for refugees and immigrants around the Seattle area.

A computer manual in both English and Vietnamese is bridging
generations and teaching much-needed skills.

The guide was produced with a grant from City of Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods. Helping Link worked in partnership with Seattle Public Schools Student Services and the City of Seattle's Tech Matching Fund to produce the book.

To facilitate cooperative learning, Helping Link published the manual in parallel Vietnamese/English. David Keyes, community technology program director for the City of Seattle Department of Information Technology, says “We’re excited to have this bilingual computer manual because it’s important for us to have native language materials. It also creates a great opportunity for non-native speakers to work alongside Vietnamese who are learning technology.” The book has already been obtained by many agencies – including the Salvation Army and Seattle Public Library.

In addition to the basic skills material, the book also covers the installation and use of Vietnamese Font. VPS Font and VPSKeys, software that adapts the standard keyboard and display for Vietnamese phonetic characters (the Western character set augmented with "diacritical" marks that guide pronunciation). The outer cover folds out into a convenient reading stand for hands-free reading while doing keyboard/mouse exercises.

Learn to Speak Vietnamese in Ten Weeks!

What : Vietnamese as a Second Language course.

Why : instruction teaching the sounds and structure of the Vietnamese language specifically tailored to the needs of people with little or no
previous exposure to the language. Participants will be provided with opportunities to directly apply their learning in real world situations within
Seattle's large Vietnamese community.

Where : Helping Link, a grassroots non-profit organization located in the International District.

Who: For people looking to connect with Vietnamese speaking family members and friends or for business people looking to increase sales or expand their
business with the Vietnamese community.
