After-school ServicesCommunity Learning CentersThe Seattle Human Services Department provides funding through the Seattle Families and Education Levy to three Community Learning Centers located at elementary schools in southwest and southeast Seattle. The goal is to foster successful after-school programming that results in improved academic achievement, school performance and healthy youth development for those children attending. Human Service Department staff provide technical assistance, facilitate planning between programs and schools, and monitor program outcomes. Each program serves approximately 70-80 children (second-fifth graders), provides 12 - 15 hours of after-school programming per week and plans monthly family activities in coordination with the school. Community Learning Centers can provide a variety of services including:
Teachers select participants and then work with Community Learning Center staff to develop learning plans for each student. Community Learning Center staff coordinate with the school family support worker and the family involvement staff to include family members in supporting student success. The City of Seattle is providing approximately $507,326 from the Seattle Families and Education Levy in 2011 to the nonprofit, community-based organizations operating the three elementary Community Learning Centers. 2011 Funded Agencies and Programs
