After-school ServicesSchool-based After School ProgramsThe City of Seattle’s Human Services Department works in partnership with Seattle Public Schools to provide school-based after-school programs that engage children in safe, constructive, culturally relevant and learning-enriched activities. Ninety percent of Seattle School District elementary schools have high-quality, fee-based after-school and summer programs on-site. The Human Services Department provides:
In addition, approximately 28 elementary schools received dedicated school-age care space built by the Seattle School District Building Excellence capital construction program. The Human Services Department provides child care design consultation and project coordination at each site during construction and facilitation of the child care selection processes for new school buildings. Human Services Department staff also provide leadership and planning coordination to the Seattle Public Schools Alignment Initiative, a partnership between each school and the child care program to share space and other resources.
