Community Voice Mail

Solid Ground’s Community Voice Mail Program provides voice-messaging services for more than 1,400 homeless, low- and fixed-income, unemployed, runaway, hospice and migrant clients each year. This important resource enables people to communicate with potential employers, landlords, medical care providers and other social services representatives.

More than 100 health and human services programs throughout King County connect their participants with the system, which is part of a national network of community voice mail programs that offer free, 24-hour voice-mail access to homeless people and phoneless households.

Services are provided in both English, Spanish, and Russian. Program staff conducts monthly trainings to educate agencies about the client benefits of voice mail, referral procedures, sign-up criteria and processes, termination procedures and reporting requirements.

The City of Seattle started funding Solid Ground for its voice mail services in the late 1980s.
