Health Insurance

Affordable health insurance is fundamentally important to everyone. Yet, more than 600,000 individuals in Washington state don’t have it.

Many uninsured individuals and families meet eligibility requirements for free or low-cost health insurance from a state or federally sponsored medical program accessible through PeoplePoint. These programs cover such services as doctor and nurse visits, dental, vision, hospital stays, prescriptions, family planning, pregnancy and immunizations.

  • Alien Emergency Medical is a federally funded, state-administered emergency medical program for persons who do not meet the citizenship requirements of other state Department of Social and Health Services medical programs. It covers emergency care for children, and for parents or relatives caring for a child or an adult who is 65 or older, disabled or blind.

  • Basic Health and Basic Health Plus cover adults and children, respectively.

  • The Children’s Health Insurance Program and Medicaid support children under 19 and adults with dependent children.

  • Family Medical is a federally funded, state-administered medical insurance program for families with dependent children under the age of 19 and whose income and resources are less than Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) limits.

  • Pregnancy Medical offers full medical care throughout pregnancy or access to termination services.

  • Take Charge Family Planning provides individuals age 13 and older one year of free family planning.
