Accomplishments in N. Rainier/ID
  • 140 volunteers distributed 6,000 compact fluorescent bulbs to NR/ID residents. This provided energy savings for residents and Seattle City Light.
  • Over 140 businesses participated in the Smart Business Program which offered incentives to upgrade their existing lighting to energy efficient fixtures.
  • The project distributed over 1,000 water efficient showerheads and faucet aerators.
  • NR/ID residents reduced their consumption by over 1.2 million kWh, enough to power 116 homes for a year.

Interdepartmental Collaborations
  • Seattle City Light, the Seattle Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit and NR/ID Block Watch Captains participated in Night Out Against Crime in August of 2004 and handed out over 3,000 compact fluorescent bulbs.
  • Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities, Department of Neighborhoods and the Parks Department worked together on the Clean & Green Seattle Initiative that targeted NR/ID in May of 2005.
  • The commitment and dedication to volunteerism and conservation by citizens of NR/ID has been outstanding. It is reflected in the conservation efforts, achieving kilowatt-hour savings that greatly exceeded our expectations.
