STATES Industries
www.statesind.com/company/company.html
States supplies natural wood veneered panels to consumers in the form of residential wall paneling, as well as industrial panels to manufacturers of cabinets, furniture, store fixtures and architectural interiors.
FSC Certified Products
States Industries is chain-of-custody certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The FSC is an international, non-governmental organization founded to promote environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. Certification means that we can purchase wood from forests that have been certified by the FSC to be well managed with the goal of sustainability, and manufacture and identify products made from that wood.
The FSC is generally recognized as the most rigorous of several certification programs, and States Industries was the first hardwood plywood mill in the US to be certified to their standards. Our certification number is SCS-C-00038.
Products
Currently the FSC recognizes products that are made from 100% certified wood as well as products that meet a minimum of 70% certified content. Each is labeled according to its content level.
States produces veneer core, particleboard and ApplePly panels that meet FSC content requirements, and we continue to look for sources of certified material in order to expand that offering.

Certified Forest Products Council
www.certifiedwood.org
The world's forests -- boreal, temperate and tropical -- are in a state of decline. The loss of forest ecosystems results in serious consequences for soil and water quality, biological diversity, wildlife habitat, and climatic stability, as well as the human communities that depend on forests for their survival. Practices such as over-harvesting, large-scale clear-cutting and selective high-grade harvesting continue to contribute to the deterioration of many ecosystems. Consequently, the critical issue is to ensure that forest resources can be used with minimal environmental impact. Focusing on this issue places a strong emphasis on the improvement of forest management, and requires appropriate and efficient use of wood products. Purchasing and procurement policies specifying certified wood play a vital role in shaping the future of our forests.
The Certified Forest Products Council works with purchasers to develop and adopt Forest Resource Policies that preferentially specify forest products from certified well-managed forests. The Certified Forest Products Council also works with architects, builders and specifiers to locate and schedule certified wood products for their building projects.

Forest Stewardship Council
www.fscus.org
The FSC promotes responsible forest management globally by certifying forest products that meet the most rigorous standards in the world. The organization brings industry, environmentalists, and community groups together to promote practical solutions that meet its diverse stakeholders' needs. The organization was founded in 1993 by environmental groups, the timber industry, foresters, indigenous peoples and community groups from 25 countries.
The FSC in the United States is backed by 14 major environmental organizations (the Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club and others) and by major businesses (Home Depot, Lowes, Anderson Windows).
The FSC standards encourage environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. FSC's Principles and Criteria are the basis for defining responsible forestry and for evaluating and accrediting certifiers.

Welcome to the U.S. EPA's Web site for the Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines (CPG)-a key component of the government's "buy-recycled" program. Today, more and more products are made from recycled materials-from the carpeting and insulation used in office buildings, to the reams of office paper purchased each day. Buying recycled helps "close the recycling loop" by putting the materials we collect through recycling programs back to good use as products in the marketplace.
At this Web site, you'll find all you need to know about the CPG and about EPA's Recovered Materials Advisory Notices (RMANs), which recommend recycled-content levels for CPG items. Explore this site by clicking on any of the links to the left.
