Solar Project - Pathfinder School

Green Power Program | Business Sign-up | Residential Sign-up | Solar Demonstration Projects

Project Summary
Pathfinder Elementary was the first site designated by the Seattle School District for installation of solar equipment and the site of a major Seattle Green Power kickoff event in January 2002. Construction began in June 2002 and the project actually began producing power in January 2003. The success of the aptly named Pathfinder project led to a number of subsequent collaborative efforts (e.g.Greenwood Elementary School, Orca Elementary School and Washington Middle School), between Seattle City Light and the Seattle School District to demonstrate the practicality of photovoltaics as a strategy for de-centralized "off-grid" power production in an urban environment.

Not just energy - potential co-benefits of solar modules are shelter and shade.
