Diversity
Race and Social Justice Initiative
Seattle City Light is a partner in Mayor Greg Nickels' Race and Social Justice Initiative, a citywide effort to end institutionalized racism in City government; and to create a community that is enriched by its diverse cultures, with full participation by all its residents. As a part of that effort, City Light is committed to performing outreach and public engagement in a manner that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of Seattle.
- City Light translates vital and critical information into languages spoken by substantial numbers of residents of the City of Seattle.
- When conducting major projects in a neighborhood where 5 percent of the population consists of a specific language group, based on the current census data, City Light translates and distributes documents relevant to the project in the appropriate languages.
- City Light provides interpreter services without charge when customers call our Customer Service Center, (206) 684-3000 and when customers visit our cashiers and lobbies in person for assistance.
- Invitations to community meetings called by City Light inform the public that interpreters may be provided at the meetings at no charge, if the City receives a request for an interpreter five working days in advance.
