Combined Charities Campaign
 Giving back to the community is what the Combined Charities Campaign is all about. The annual fund-raising event for City of Seattle employees supports the United Way of King County and more than 800 charitable organizations in the region and beyond. In 2008, Seattle City Light led the citywide fundraising campaign, encouraging employees in all departments to give. City employees showed their generosity and compassion during a difficult economic year by raising more than $1 million and pledging nearly 15,000 volunteer hours. What's more, the employee participation rate skyrocketed from 6.4 percent three years ago to 28 percent in 2008. In addition, City employees contributed more than 2,000 pounds of food for Northwest Harvest during the citywide food drive.

Heart Walk
City Light employees, along with their friends and families, turned out for the Oct. 3, 2009 Puget Sound Heart Walk at Qwest Field in support of the American Heart Association. At last count, 58 walkers from the utility had signed up for the fundraiser, with both walkers and their supporters contributing $5,600. This was part of a City of Seattle effort to rally employees from all City departments and raise thousands of dollars for the cause of heart health.
The American Heart Association provides more than $6.7 million in research grants to five local institutions each year, and City Light considers Heart Walk an excellent opportunity to volunteer. For more information about Heart Walk and how much money was raised this year, go to their Web site:
