Conservation: Neighborhood Power Project

Seattle City Light's Neighborhood Power Project (NPP) began as a pilot project in the Fremont Neighborhood in 1995. In addition to helping customers save energy, NPP's goals were to:
  1. Strengthen its partnerships with other city departments and the neighborhoods; and
  2. Deliver resource conservation services more efficiently.
Since Fremont, NPP has worked in 13 other geographic neighborhoods. It has partnered closely with neighborhood associations, Seattle Police Department's BlockWatch captains and other community-based groups to offer a menu of resource conservation services based on the specific needs of the residential and business community.

Now in its 15th year, NPP is focusing more on partnering with ethnic communities to affect behavior change around energy efficiency. The program is currently offering free "how-to" conservation workshops with free caulk and weatherstripping available for attendees.

For more information about the program or to schedule a workshop for your group, please contact NPP's program coordinator Juan Peralez at juan.peralez@seattle.gov or 206-684-3868.

Through its Powerful Neighborhoods program, Seattle City Light also offers free installation of compact fluorescent light bulbs and smoke detectors, along with providing water-saving showerheads and aerators to residents in Seattle's South end. For more information, please visit the Powerful Neighborhoods website or email Andy Silber at SCL_Install@Seattle.gov.
