Boundary Project road trip
Boundary Project Visitors' Gallery Hours: Thursday through Monday
For a behind-the-scenes look at how 50 percent of Seattle's power is generated, visit the Boundary Hydroelectric Project, just one mile south of the Canadian border. Boundary Dam, which is nestled in the foothills of the Selkirk Range, arches between two massive rock cliffs. Its gates retain the flow of Washington's second largest river, the Pend Oreille (say Pond-er-ray). Tour Information Free guided tours are available from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Thursdays through Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reservations are not required, but groups of 10 or more should call in advance. Accommodations for persons with disabilities are available with an advance request. For more information, please call 509.446.3083. Gear Up for Adventure! Enjoy the splendor of Pend Oreille County. The area has an array of sights and activities including fishing, camping, backpacking and horseback riding for year-round recreational fun. A picnic area, campsites and a boat launch provide access to the clear, sparkling water of the reservoir. See local sights. If you're a camper, Boundary is a great site to enjoy the water and mountains. The recreational campground is just upstream of the dam and has eight RV sites and an area for tents. Services include restrooms with running water (no showers) and a boat ramp providing access to Boundary reservoir. There also primitive camp sites located near Z Canyon which are only accessible by water. There is no charge for the facilities but availability is on a first come basis and reservations are not taken. No rv sanitation dump facilities or boat moorage. Forging Partnerships with Local Business Seattle City Light is one of the area's largest employers. The utility won the "National Eyes on Wildlife Award" for teaming up with the Colville National Forest to assist in the development of Flume Creek Mountain Goat Viewing Area. Seattle City Light manages the Boundary Project and six other hydroelectric plants in Washington state, providing the lowest cost, most reliable and greenest electricity in urban America. Security Note: With heightened security concerns, access may be limited. Photo ID is required for all adults and some areas of the project are restricted.
