Garden Mission
The mission of Magnuson Community Garden is to enhance the quality of urban life and strengthen community bonds by creating and sustaining an organic garden in Sand Point Magnuson Park that will foster environmental stewardship, horticultural education, rejuvenation, and recreation
Magnuson Community Garden Receives DeLoach Community Garden Award. A Community Garden Award Contest was sponsored by Organic Gardening magazine and the DeLoach Vineyard organic winery. In August 2011, the top five garden entries each received a $4,000 grant. Our grant award will support a much needed expansion to our ADA accessible raised bed and add interpretive signs to improve visitor use and experience. Many thanks DeLoach Vineyard and those who voted for the Magnuson Community Garden

2011 marks the 10 year anniversary of the four-acre multipurpose community garden built in Magnuson Park by neighborhood volunteers in cooperation with the Seattle Parks Department and the Department of Neighborhoods. The project was funded in part by a Department of Neighborhoods Large Project Award, the Pro Parks Levy, and private donations.

The garden was designed by Barker Landscape Architects through a public participation process over several months. A central feature of the garden is an arbor at the top of the amphitheater, designed and built  by Jon Ruhnke Landscaping; a gift of the University Lions Club. More about the Arbor

Among the garden components are:  An amphitheater, a children's garden, a native plant demonstration area, a native plant nursery, an orchard, and P-Patch plots.

The garden was designed to provide support programs for seniors, transitional housing residents,  youth, people with special needs, and neighborhood P-Patch gardeners.  Its purpose is to encourage people to enjoy the an environment and learn about sustainabile practices. It promotes beauty, neighborliness, living and stewardship of the natural resources of the Sand Point Peninsula.
