Report on Clean Seattle Initiative
99th Clean & Green Seattle - West Seattle
On Saturday, June 20, 2009, Mayor Nickels led more than fifty (50) volunteers in the creation of a new P-Patch Community Garden in the West Seattle Junction neighborhood. Dubbed the West Seattle Genesee P-Patch, the City's newest addition to the P-Patch Program is situated alongside a planting strip that abuts the West Seattle Christian Church parking lot, located at 4401 41st Avenue SW.
In conjunction with the Clean & Green event, the local community council, the Junction Neighborhood Organization (JuNO), organized an Adopt-A-Street Clean-up and collected litter from nearby residential streets.
Participants included Pastor Dan Jacobs of the West Seattle Christian Church, Aaron Hernandez of the Friends of the West Seattle Genesee P-Patch and Erica Karlovits, president of JuNO.
Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Washington State Department of Corrections and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort. The West Seattle Herald and West Seattle Blog covered the event. Anthony Harris of Seattle Public Utilities took digital pictures. A ton of green debris was removed.
