Help Create a Great Neighborhood
Buildings don't create neighborhoods - people do. People who live, work, recreate, shop, and put their personal stamp on a place. The Mayor's action agenda for South Lake Union provides the physical elements that allow people to create a great neighborhood here. It responds to the 1998 Neighborhood Plan by working to enhance the neighborhood's character and mix of uses. Housing is a critical element of that mix, available iin a diversity of unit sizes and locations. So too is transit, providing workers and residents easy access without a car. Other important elements - green space, a grocery story and other services, streets that encourage walking, and design standards that shape the feel of the neighborhood, are also part of the Mayor's Action Agenda.
The Mayor's Strategy:
  • Work with the Neighborhood Stewardship group to iimplement key elements of the Neighborhood Plan
  • With community representatives, develop a package of program incentives and code changes to stimulate housing development for people of all income levels
  • Implement Neighborhood Design Guidelines
  • Make South Lake Union a model for development that utilizes sustainable building strategies, which reduce utility costs and protect the environment
