The Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) is an initiative from Mayor Greg Nickels. The MYC will advise the Mayor on issues affecting youth in Seattle and provide youth input on Mayor Nickels' policies. build leadership skills and knowledge of civic engagement.
  • Youth voice: Discuss solutions to community issues and make
    recommendations to the Mayor.
  • Learn about city government: Hear from Mayor Greg Nickels,
City of Seattle staff and department directors.
  • Organize youth events: Host the Mayor's Youth Town Hall and

Background
The Mayor's Youth Council officially began January 9th, 2003. The idea took form in March of 2002 at Mayor Nickel's first Youth Town Hall, where over 200 youth attended to voice their opinions and concerns on a number of issues. At the town hall, it was clear there was a need for youth to be represented in Seattle and a way for them to get involved with city government.

The goals of the Mayor's Youth Council are founded in three main principles, they are:

  • Connect with students, youth and community leaders.
  • Engage with Mayor Greg Nickels and City of Seattle staff.
  • Impact local government and your community.
