Mayor Nickels' Message to City Employees
on the Passing of President Ronald Reagan

Dear City employees,

On Friday, the nation will mourn the passing of former President Ronald Reagan.

City offices will remain open on Friday to serve the public, although federal offices will close.

President Reagan's death has sparked a national discussion of his policies and his role in shaping history. We have heard wonderful tributes to his political acumen, his commitment to freedom, and his unfailing warmth and courtesy. There is so much we can learn from his extraordinary life. We should also remember the contributions of his wife and family, who put aside their personal grief to increase awareness about Alzheimer's disease.

The funeral will begin at 8:30 a.m., Seattle time. I invite you to take a moment of silence at your workplace to reflect on his legacy.

Sincerely,

GREG NICKELS
Mayor of Seattle
