Mayor Message on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, Thursday, April 28, 2005
04/12/05
Dear Friends:
Take Our Daughters to Work Day began as a revolutionary idea and became a tradition in workplaces across the country. This national event has helped introduce millions of girls and boys to the world of work, and has given children a chance to envision their future opportunities.
Two years ago the Ms. Foundation announced a change to the day's focus and a new name for this popular annual event: Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day. The event now provides a forum for girls and boys to experience a variety of workplaces, and to share ideas about their workplace of the future.
As Mayor of the City of Seattle, I heartily endorse Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 28, 2005. Boys and men as well as girls and women need support and encouragement to fully participate in family, work and community.
I encourage all departments to participate in your own way on April 28, 2005 as your staff and resources permit. Departments also should feel free to plan joint events as appropriate. The Ms Foundation's web site, www.DaughtersandSonstoWork.org offers suggestions for new activities, as well as links to resources.
Thank you for your support of this important day.
Sincerely,
GREG NICKELS
Mayor
