Mayor's statement on Veterans Day
11/10/05
Dear Friends,
As the nation observes the Veterans’ Day holiday
tomorrow, I hope you will take time to observe it in a meaningful way to
honor the sacrifices of all of our men and women in the armed forces --
both past and present. On this day, we pay special homage to our fallen
soldiers. In honor of the day all City offices will be closed on Friday,
Nov. 11.
It is also a day to reflect on the plight of veterans who have returned home
only to become homeless. Those who put their lives on the line in service
should not slip through the cracks of a society they fought to protect.
Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park will hold its 56th annual Veterans Day service
at 11 a.m. Washelli is located at 11111 Aurora Ave. N.
Please check the local newspapers for details about other Veterans Day observances.
We are all grateful for the sacrifices made by the men and women in the armed
forces and their families. Join with me in a show of respect and appreciation
on this special day.
Sincerely,
GREG NICKELS
Mayor
