Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

04/25/06

Dear Friends:

This Thursday, April 27, 2006 is Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

Take Our Daughters to Work Day, established by the Ms. Foundation for Women, began as a revolutionary idea and became a tradition in workplaces across the country. This national event introduced millions of girls to the workplace and gave them an opportunity to envision the many possibilities of their future.

Last year, the Ms. Foundation changed the event’s focus, re-establishing it as “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day”, which provides a forum for all children to experience the workplace, share their expectations for the future and solicit advice on how to act upon their hopes and dreams.

As mayor of the City of Seattle, I am in full support of the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 27, 2006. This year’s theme is “Shaping the Future” and with this event, we will be encouraging our children to accomplish their goals. Additionally, we will be providing them with valuable workplace experience and we just might learn something from them as well!

I encourage all departments to participate in your own way on April 27th (as your staff and resources permit). The Ms. Foundation’s website, www.daughtersandsonstowork.org offers suggestions for activities and links to other resources.

Thank you for your support on this important day.

Sincerely,

GREG NICKELS
Mayor
