On November 8, 2005, Seattle citizens did not support Proposition 1, which concerned shortening the initial monorail line. As a result the Monorail Green Line will not be built and the Seattle Monorail Project (SMP) will be dissolved.

The City remains committed to serving the neighborhoods on the west side of Seattle with transit. Mayor Nickels has directed the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to study transit options for West Seattle and Ballard that will improve access around the city and throughout the region.

Over the next several months the city will be working closely with our transit partners (King County Metro and Sound Transit) to develop a coordinated plan on opportunities to improve transit service; and identify options to help ease congestion during Alaskan Way Viaduct and Seawall construction. We will be sharing our recommendations with the public in Spring 2006.
