Large Projects Fund

City Council approves 2011 Large Project Recommendations

The Seattle City Council today approved more than $1 million in matching funds to support neighborhood projects across the City. Twelve community organizations will receive awards from Seattle Department of Neighborhoods" Neighborhood Matching Fund Program for projects as diverse as creation of an autistic spectrum disorder-friendly playspace to construction of an outdoor stage for community events.  To read the press release, click here To read the list of awarded projects, click here.

FUND INFORMATION

The Large Projects Fund provides awards up to $100,000 to support community members in building community relationships around a project. Large Projects Fund activities may be physical projects as well as less tangible but equally significant educational, cultural, and relationship-strengthening activities. All projects must demonstrate its capacity to build a stronger and healthier community, and must:

  • Provide a public benefit and be free and open to all members of the public.
  • Emphasize self-help, with project ideas initiated, planned and implemented by the neighbors and community members who will themselves be impacted by the project.
  • Demonstrate community match.
  • Occur within the Seattle city limits.

Who Should Apply
The Large Projects Fund is open to:

  • Neighborhood-based groups, community-based organizations, ad-hoc groups and business groups (such as chambers of commerce) who want to do a project to build stronger connections in their neighborhood.
  • Community groups that do not have a geographic base, such as a racial or ethnic group, GLBT groups, a disability community, etc.

When to Apply

The deadline for applications is July 16, 2012. There will be no Letter of Intent (LOI) required as in previous years. Instead, applicants must attend one of three mandatory workshops before they can complete an application.  The workshops will be offered in the Spring with dates to be determined.

Applicants are notified of award decision within three months of the full proposal deadline.
