P-Patch Community Gardens

Fremont-Whirled Peas

Whirled Peas

Begun in 1995 on a vacant residential lot, its first gardeners removed weeds, blackberry bushes and assorted litter before building 30 raised beds. In addition to fruit trees and one plot dedicated to food bank produce, the gardeners created a shade bed with flowers at their front steps and a flowers-and-herbs bed next to their compost bins. In 2004 the gardeners will be adding a green roofed shed along with a new common area and entry arbor and fence.
