Get Involved!

The best way to stay involved is by signing up to our Interest List for periodic email updates and to put yourself on the waitlist.

Getting a Garden Plot

New garden plots are assigned based on involvement. While the City provides support, new gardens are built by the community. Neighbors come together to envision, design, and eventually construct a unique garden that meets their needs and reflects their neighborhood identity. Thus, community commitment through volunteering is the primary factor in assigning plots in a new garden. If you are interested in getting a plot join the Interest List and please see How Plots are Assigned.

History

Long called the 37th Avenue Park, this South Beacon Hill park was renamed the John C. Little, Sr. Park in September 2004. In 2005 the park began a process to renovate and improve the park. A section of the park was designated for a future P-Patch. When Seattle voters approved the 2008 Parks & Green Spaces Levy funding was allocated for the design and construction of the John C. Little Garden. The public design process is set to begin in early 2012 with construction following soon after.

John C. Little, Sr. (d. 1999) was a member of the Board of Park Commissioners for seven years. Naming the park after him celebrates his service and career developing programs and services for the community, especially disadvantaged youth and the low-income families. Mr. Little helped found the Central Area Youth Association and created a 4-H program for Seattle modeled on the program for rural kids.
