Mayor Nickels announces that Washington Coalition for
Citizens with Disabilities will distribute FLASH Card
Discount card for people with disabilities will
improve access to city services, local businesses, and community
Seattle — Mayor Greg Nickels announced today that the Washington Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities (WCCD) will become a distributor of the city’s FLASH Card. The FLASH (Fun, Leisure, Access, Savings, and Health) Card offers a variety of discounts, services, and programs for both Seattle and King County residents who have disabilities.
"I’m proud the WCCD is willing to help us provide this opportunity to enrich peoples lives by linking our residents to great community resources like the FLASH Card," Nickels said.
Developed by the City of Seattle’s Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens and the disabled community, the FLASH Card offers discounts at restaurants, local businesses, theaters, and recreational facilities. The card also works as a library card at the Seattle Public Library and entitles the user to a half-price pet license. It is designed to be read by people with vision disabilities and is embossed in Braille.
Seattle and King County residents with disabilities can get a FLASH Card at the WCCD, at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford (4649 Sunnyside Avenue North, Suite 100, Seattle). The Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens also distributes the card at the Alaska Building, 618 Second Avenue, Room 250, Seattle. Other organizations that distribute the FLASH Card are Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted, and the Special Technology Access Resources Center (STAR). Eligibility requirements for the FLASH Card are the same as those required to obtain a METRO reduced fare bus permit for people with disabilities, and for the City’s Utility Discount Program.
The Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens is an office of the City’s Human Services Department, which administers over $91 million in local, state, and federal funding, subcontracts with more than 300 community-based agencies and provides services directly to the community.
