Mayor Seeking Public Input on Search for
New City Light Superintendent

SEATTLE- Mayor Nickels wants City Light customers to help in the search for a new superintendent for the municipal utility. What kind of experience and background should the new superintendent have? What course should he or she set for the utility as it begins its second century of service?

Opportunities for input include a public hearing, a new Website or by letter or fax.

A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 5-8 p.m., at the Securities Building, 1904 Third Ave. in downtown Seattle. Members of the mayor's 15-member search committee will be on hand to listen to any person who wishes to testify.

"City Light's customers are City Light's owners," said Nickels. "We want their involvement, their suggestions and their ideas."

"I hope to continue the constructive and passionate debate about the future of our public utility in the superintendent selection process, and this public hearing is a good first step," said Councilmember Heidi Wills, chair of the Energy & Environmental Policy Committee.

Citizens may comment online at a new Website created for public input on the search for a new superintendent http://www.cityofseattle.net/Personnel/supersearch/.

Those who wish to send written comments (maximum two pages) can do so by sending letters addressed to Heather Weldon, Superintendent Search, 710 Second Ave., 12th Floor, Seattle, WA 98104-1793. Comments can also be faxed to Weldon's attention at (206) 684-5809. Comments must be received or postmarked by July 18, 2003.
