City Council to Hold Public Hearing on Fire Facilities
Input sought on size and scope of possible ballot measure

SEATTLE - The Seattle City Council will hold a public hearing on the possibility of sending a property tax measure to the ballot this fall to build or renovate fire stations and emergency facilities. The hearing will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7, in Council Chambers in the old Municipal Building, 600 Fourth Avenue.

Legislation on a fire facilities proposal will be introduced at the 2 p.m. City Council meeting on July 7. At 2:30 p.m., there will be a Committee of the Whole discussion on the fire facilities legislation. The public hearing will take place that evening at 5:30 p.m. A sign-up sheet for those wishing to testify will be available at 5 p.m. outside Council Chambers.

Participants are asked to speak on the merits of funding renovation or construction of new fire stations, medic bays, an emergency operations center and a new fireboat to combat marine fires, among other items.

The Council has preliminarily scheduled a Committee of the Whole vote on July 14 and a full Council vote on July 21.

The hearing will be cablecast live on Seattle Channel 21/28 and Webcast live at www.cityofseattle.net/council.
